München, Tollwood Festival 23. Juni 2023: eine wahre, lebende Legende betritt unter phrenetischem Applaus die Bühne des Musikzeltes und sorgt gleich mit dem ersten Song für Gänsehautmomente im ausverkauften (bestuhlten!) Zelt: „I’m Getting Old“. Eine autobiografische Ballade. Glasklar vorgetragen.
Gleich vorneweg: es ist einfach unglaublich, dass sich seine Stimme immer noch anhört, als wären die 83 Lebensjahre scheinbar spurlos an ihr vorbeigegangen. Glasklar und keinerlei Schwächen in den Höhen. Eine Dynamik, die seinesgleichen sucht. Faszinierend und ein Hörgenuss gleichzeitig.
Lasziv tänzelnd liefert er einen Hit nach dem anderen völlig tiefenentspannt und souverän ab.
Pussycat, Windmills Of Your Mind (eigentlich ein Dusty Springfield-Song), Sexbomb, Kiss, natürlich Delilah (in einer richtig geilen Live-Version) und viele, viele mehr. Er bedient sich aus dem Repertoire von Bob Dylan, genauso wie aus dem vom, mittlerweile über 90 Jahre alten Willie Nelson.
Tom Erzählt viele Anekdoten aus seiner, über 60 jährigen Weltkarriere. Zum Beispiel, wie er seinerzeit mit Elvis Presley in Las Vegas nach der Show noch ausging. Elvis schlug vor, den wahren „King of Rock`n Roll“ auf seiner Show zu besuchen: Chuck Berry. Was sie dann natürlich dann auch taten. Dieser Chuck Berry wurde dann zum Abschluss vom „Tiger“ auch noch ausgiebig gehuldigt.
„Johnny B. Goode“ und „Great Balls Of Fire“ beendeten als Zugabe dann unter tosendem Applaus und Standing Ovations von 6.500 euphorisierten Zuhörern ein wahrhaft unvergessliches Konzert eines der letzten wirklichen Titanen des Musikgeschäftes.
Für mich war es ein Privileg den Tiger Tom Jones einmal im Leben live erleben zu dürfen. Kann mich nicht erinnern jemals ein einem einzigen Konzert so viele Gänsehautmomente erlebt zu haben. Ich hoffe, ich kriege bald wieder die Möglichkeit eine seiner Shows zu besuchen, denn ans Aufhören, denkt der sympathische und publikumsnahe Superstar, nach eigenen Worten noch lange nicht.

Munich, Tollwood Festival June 23, 2023: a true, living legend enters the stage of the Music Tent accompanied by phrenetic applause and provides the first of many goosebump-moments in the sold-out (seated!) tent with the first song: „I’m Getting Old“. An autobiographical ballad, delivered crystal clear.
First things first: it’s just unbelievable that his voice still sounds as if the 83 years of his life had apparently passed, without a trace. Crystal clear and no weaknesses in the highs. A dynamic vocal range that is second to none. Fascinating and a pleasure to listen to at the same time.
Lasciviously dancing, he delivers one hit after the other in a completely relaxed and confident manner.
Pussycat, Windmills Of Your Mind (actually a Dusty Springfield song), Sexbomb, Kiss, of course Delilah (in a really extraordinary live version) and many, many more. He uses the repertoire of Bob Dylan as well as that of Willie Nelson, who now already is over 90 years old!
Tom tells many anecdotes from his 60-year long world career.
For example, how he went out with Elvis Presley in Las Vegas after the show. Elvis suggested visiting the real „King of Rock ’n Roll“ on that night`s show: Chuck Berry. Which of course they did. This Chuck Berry was then also extensively hommaged to at the end by „The Tiger“.
„Johnny B. Goode“ and „Great Balls Of Fire“ ended as encores a truly unforgettable concert of one of the last real titans in music business with thunderous applause and standing ovations from 6,500 euphoric listeners.
For me it was a privilege to be able to experience the tiger Tom Jones live once in my life. I can’t remember ever having so many goosebump-moments in a single concert. I hope I’ll get the opportunity to visit one of his shows again soon, because, in his own words, the sympathetic superstar, who is so close to his audience, is far from thinking about quitting.
We’ll take him at his word and wait…
